Andrew Wubbolding’s piece received 1st place and Brayden Bass’ artwork received 2nd place

Cincinnati Just Earth is a non-profit located in Cincinnati’s Over the Rhine neighborhood. Their mission is to educate and facilitate action to address the intersecting crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental injustice. As part of their efforts, they sponsor a visual arts competition for artists in the Greater Cincinnati area. The planet may well be at a tipping point, with climate change and its complicated environmental, cultural, and political effects accelerating. In response, Just Earth -Cincinnati invites artists to seize the moment and to express in their own compositions a personal dedication and/or delight in creation and the beauty of nature. Submit a composition, finished - ready to hang - depicting: warnings for the future; images of celebration; images depicting regret or loss; or pieces of art depicting hope and exaltation over a healthy world and all of life’s cycles.
Each student in the Artworld class submitted artwork to the Just Earth contest depicting their artistic interpretation on the theme. Dr. Michaelann Kelley is the instructor and helped the students investigate their own beliefs then translate those beliefs into a visual statement. The 2025 competition took place at the Art Academy of Cincinnati on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The display of student and professional artwork looked amazing and brought light to a social justice issue.
Two students received accolades for their artistic vision and voice. Andrew Wubbolding’s piece reflecting the dying dark skies received 1st place and $500.00. Brayden Bass’ artwork that depicts the entanglement of nature and trash received 2nd place and $250.00.
Congratulations to both award winners and all the students that participated!
