Founded by Professor Swati Chopra, Design Hub is Mount St. Joseph University’s in-house creative studio, powered by student co-ops Adam Hale (Senior), Kylee Adams (Senior), and Grace Upton (Sophomore) from the Graphic Design program. Modeled after a professional design agency, the Hub gives students real-world experience—managing projects, developing creative concepts, and collaborating directly with clients—while delivering high-quality design work to the MSJ community and beyond.

Now in its third year, Design Hub has not only strengthened creative initiatives across campus but has also expanded its partnerships nationally and internationally. Its client list includes Nedasoft, a software development company in Sacramento, CA; Personality Wear, a clothing brand based in New Jersey; Lavenderoom, a beauty and lifestyle company in Mumbai, India; and several local Cincinnati organizations. These collaborations advance MSJ’s Bold Goals by offering contemporary and distinctive academic experiences that immerse students in real client work; cultivating an unsurpassed student experience through mentorship, teamwork, and ownership of outcomes; and strengthening a culture of care and belonging by fostering supportive, inclusive creative environments. Additionally, Design Hub contributes to leading student success and support by preparing students with competitive portfolios and professional readiness, while also building operational strength through sustainable external partnerships and visibility for the University.

To date, the Hub has produced an impressive body of work, including 17 logos, nine posters, five brochures, two murals, two interactive displays, one signage system, 15 custom shirts, two tote designs, multiple flyers, buttons, bookmarks, postcards, an app design, and a social media template series. The team has also hosted two art-based community events, further connecting students with the local creative scene.

A proud collaborator with MSJ’s Creative Services team, Design Hub continues to extend the university’s creative capacity—supporting campus events, student organizations, and institutional initiatives. Current projects include the redesign of the Thrailkill Hallway and the Health Sciences Hallway, which will showcase the university’s vibrant and inclusive spirit through visual storytelling. By transforming shared spaces into welcoming, inspiring, and student-centered environments, these projects directly enhance the everyday campus experience—fostering a stronger sense of belonging, pride, and connection among students.

Working in the spirit of Sister Augusta Zimmer—who mentored her students through the design and creation of the Mater Dei Chapel artwork—Design Hub continues this tradition of learning-through-making, where creativity, collaboration, and care are integral to the educational experience. Under Professor Chopra’s leadership, Design Hub exemplifies how classroom learning transforms into professional impact. By working with real clients and delivering tangible results, MSJ students build strong portfolios, develop leadership and collaboration skills, and help advance the University’s mission of service, creativity, and excellence—one project at a time.
