Dr. Gene Kritsky honored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Governor Mike DeWine for more than four decades of conservation and education.
Dr. Gene Kritsky, the Mount’s Chief Science Officer of CITE, biology professor and retired Dean of Behavioral and Natural Sciences, has received the Cardinal Award from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and Governor Mike DeWine.
Presented at the Ohio State Fair, the Cardinal Award recognizes individuals and organizations who demonstrate exceptional awareness and concern for Ohio’s natural resources and the mission of ODNR. Established in 1971, the award honors those who help promote a balance between the wise use and protection of natural resources for the benefit of all.
Gene Kritsky was recognized for more than four decades of dedication to the conservation and preservation of insects, as well as his work advancing scientific understanding and inspiring future generations of conservationists.
His award citation specifically highlighted his renowned research on periodical cicadas, including his groundbreaking discovery of Ohio’s only 13-year brood, along with his extensive contributions to insect education and conservation.
The Cardinal Award adds to Dr. Kritsky’s many professional honors and reflects his lasting impact on the understanding, appreciation and preservation of Ohio’s natural world.
