Mount St. Joseph University mourns the loss of a dear friend, Pat Crowley.

Mount Community,

On Saturday, December 28, 2024, the world unexpectedly lost an award-winning journalist, and the Mount lost a dear friend, at the age of 63—Pat Crowley, Founding Partner of Strategic Advisers, LLC.

Pat was one of the most humble public relations professionals I ever met; indeed, since his passing, through numerous public and national tributes to Pat, I have learned so much more about his extraordinary professional accomplishments than I ever learned from my personal interactions with him. Senator Mitch McConnell referred to Pat as “one of Kentucky’s finest political journalists,” Howard Wilkinson of WVXU, called Pat “one of the funniest men I have ever met,” and Cincinnati City Council Member Mark Jeffries referred to Pat as a “gentle and giving soul.”  The accolades go on and on—a testament, indeed, to a life well-lived.

I worked with Pat many times over the past five years, through the Mount’s consultant relationship with Strategic Advisers LLC.  During our first meeting Pat was quick to share with me that his “Aunt Cookie,” Sister Jean Marian Crowley, is a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati.  He then proceeded to share story after story of the impact the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati have had on his and his family’s lives. Pat’s comments and actions immediately evinced that he was committed to the Mount’s Mission and Catholic heritage, which made him an ideal partner in furthering many of the University’s external initiatives.

Through collaborations with Strategic Advisers, and the superb work of Pat, his business partner, Greg Greene, and his colleague and daughter, Shayna Nevermann, millions and millions of dollars of earned media have been generated for the Mount over the last five years, promoting our accomplishments and helping to grow the Mount’s brand.  From assisting with the momentous Centennial Celebration in 2020, to gaining regional and national media attention for the superb work of Mount faculty members, and everything between, Pat was an invaluable partner and promoter of Mount St. Joseph University. Notably, Pat was instrumental in the April 1, 2021 announcement of the Mount’s new “Buzz Cicada Mascot”—an April Fool’s joke about the Mount’s replacing its Joe Lion Mascot, which made national headlines.  Indeed, Pat was an exceptional public relations professional with a great sense of humor.

It was a pleasure knowing and working with Pat.  As I have read the many tributes to him over the past few days, I noted the common traits identified: humility, simplicity, and charity.  This seems fitting for a man who was an avid supporter of the Mount, with a deep connection to the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati.

Pat Crowley: Rest in Peace my friend…

Visitation for Pat will be held at Southgate Community Center on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from Noon - 4 p.m., with services starting at 4 p.m.  Our prayers are with Pat’s wife, Pam, son, Conor, daughter, Shayna Nevermann, son-in-law, Max Nevermann, and Pat and Pam’s three grandchildren, Bennett, Bodhi, and Sloane, as well as the entire Crowley family and Strategic Advisers team.  May God continue to bless them, all.

Sincerely,

H. James Williams, Ph.D.
