MSJ Theatre Arts has commissioned local playwright and actor Maggie Lou Rader to write a play about the Sisters of Charity Legacy, funded through the generosity of The Sisters of Charity Sister Elise grant.

The legacy of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati can be seen in a variety of ways, including the 100+ year history of Mount St. Joseph University. As MSJ Theatre Arts has grown over the past three years, the Mount wishes to celebrate the Sisters of Charity legacy by producing an original play. Not only will this play provide the University with the opportunity to promote the stories of its foundresses, it will also allow the institution to feature several talented female-identifying actors.

“I have been searching for a way to honor the Sisters of Charity for their amazing work since I arrived at the Mount,” says Richard Buchanan, Director of MSJ Theatre Arts. “I feel like this project will allow us to reconnect as a community after the disconnection wrought by Covid, and will give our students the opportunity to give back using the skills they have learned from theatre.”
