Apply for Art & Design Scholarships at Mount St. Joseph University
High school students have the chance to showcase their artistic talent and to earn Art & Design Scholarships at Mount St. Joseph University.
How to Apply:
Create and submit a portfolio package by January 15 to be eligible. Your portfolio package should include:
- A digital portfolio of your best work, which should demonstrate innovation and originality in content, style, and technique;
- A typed inventory list corresponding to the art and design works included in the digital portfolio;
- A typed 200-word essay articulating your reasons for wanting to study art and design at the Mount;
- A letter of recommendation from your high school art teacher or another instructor.
Submissions will be juried by MSJ Art & Design faculty. Final jurying and awarding of scholarships will take place by March 1.
Scholarship Competition Awards
The chosen applicants will earn one of the following four year renewable scholarships:
- Fine Arts Scholarship | Two $2,000 and two $1,500
- Moore-Eckel Scholarship | $1,500
- John Nartker Scholarship | $1,000
- Selections Scholarships | One $5,000 to a high school senior; one $2,000 to a high school senior; and two $2,000; one each to two high school juniors.
Selections Scholarships are awarded every other year. High school art instructors submit student artwork to be included in the Mount’s Biennial Selections Exhibition. MSJ faculty choose and award Selections scholarship recipients to those who have completed the entire scholarship application process.
Additional Scholarships & Awards Offered
Each opportunity has specific criteria.
- Art Guild | up to $1,000/year
The Art Guild is a hands-on art making experience. Members will be completing public art projects both on and off campus. The Art Guild provides students with the opportunity to work on individual and group projects in their areas of expertise and interest while giving back to the community. - Austin E. Knowlton Foundation Scholarship | $4,000
- Sister Augusta Zimmer Scholarship | $1,000
This scholarship is awarded by the Art & Design faculty to a continuing art or design major after completion of their first year at the Mount.
To be eligible for a scholarship, high school seniors must apply and be admitted to the Mount.
