Once Sophie arrived to the Mount as a transfer student, she found her home away from home through making new friends, joining clubs, and navigating classes.
What is your year and major? What is your anticipated graduation year?
I am a sophomore majoring in Secondary English Education! I am anticipating graduating in 2026.
Why did you choose your major and the Mount?
I chose to major in Secondary English Education because I found out that I absolutely love teaching high school! I found my love for it through substitute teaching, and I wouldn’t trade any of those experiences for the world.
How did the Mount help accommodate your transfer needs, and/or how has the Mount supported you through the enrollment process?
The Mount has accommodated my transfer needs by walking through every step of the process with me day in, and day out. The Admissions Office guided me through how to transfer my credits from my previous institution, meet people, and [how to apply to work] as a Campus Ambassador!
How do you plan to get involved on campus?
I plan to get involved in faith organizations and campus activities such as: Lions For Life, Mission Ambassadors, Campus Activities Board, Bible Study, and HAVIC.
What are you looking forward to most while attending the Mount?
I’m most looking forward to all the new, wonderful people I’m going to get to know! I also love going to all athletic events, which are plentiful here at The Mount. I’m mostly just looking for all the great experiences I will have throughout my time here.
What advice or recommendations would you give to transfer student looking to attend the Mount?
Get involved early! Find something that you’re passionate about and go for it. There is no such thing as having too many connections here. Also, pick a major that you genuinely love and dive yourself into your work. You will find your way eventually, even if you don’t find your footing immediately.
Open Response Opportunity (Anything else you want to share about your experience?)
In my experience of coming from a big school to a small liberal arts college, I didn’t know what to expect when it came to making friends, joining clubs, and navigating classes. Once I got here, however, I found that I now had a home away from home. Transferring to the Mount has been the best thing I’ve ever done, and I sincerely hope you love it too!
