Joe Shadle serves as the Chief Mission Officer at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio. In this role, he strengthens the University’s Mission, Catholic Identity, and the Heritage and Legacy of its founders, the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati. He holds a Master of Divinity and an M.A. in Biblical Studies from the Athenaeum of Ohio, an MBA from Xavier University, and a B.A. in Business Management and Psychology from Walsh University.
For 15 years, Joe served as Director and later Executive Director of the Center for Mission and Identity at Xavier University, where his team led efforts to integrate the University’s mission and identity across campus. He previously served as Xavier’s Director of Campus Ministry.
With over 25 years of teaching experience, Joe has been an adjunct faculty member at Xavier University, the Athenaeum of Ohio, and Thomas More University, teaching courses on Sacred Scripture, World Religions, and Spirituality and Leadership. Joe has contributed to the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) as the online workshop coordinator for the Ignatian Colleagues Program, helping develop online curriculum for faculty and administrators across Jesuit higher education in the U.S. and Belize.
Throughout his career, Joe has been recognized for his work, including being awarded Outstanding Part-Time Teacher of the Year at Thomas More University in 2016, a nomination for the JASPA Ignatian Medal for New Professionals in Jesuit Student Affairs in 2008, and the Award for Educational Excellence from the National Association of Parish Catechetical Directors in 1997. He has served on numerous committees in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, including the Lay Ecclesial Ministry Task Force, the Worship Commission, and the Recruitment and Retention of Lay Ministers Committee. He currently chairs the Clinical Pastoral Education Professional Advisory Committee for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
