Mount St. Joseph University’s Computer Science Teacher Endorsement Program is designed to equip educators with cutting-edge skills in teaching computer science. 

Through the Ohio-sponsored Teach CS Grant, licensed teachers can get an Ohio Computer Science Endorsement free of charge.  Costs covered are tuition, general fees, books and materials, and taking the Computer Science Ohio Assessment for Educators (OAE 054).  By adding the Computer Science Endorsement to an existing Ohio resident educator, professional educator, or permanent teaching license, educators will be qualified to teach computer science across grades K-12. Teachers who anticipate teaching computer science in the near future, as well as those who currently teach computer science, are welcome to join the program. We offer a supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to grow their skills.  Spots are limited, so it’s important to act quickly! 

Uniquely, our program is a cooperation with both the Department of Computer Science, School of Education and the Center for IT Engagement. The Department of Computer Science provides students with foundational technology knowledge, and the School of Education brings in pedagogical experts. Additionally, our partnership with the university’s for-profit IT consulting arm means that our program is in touch with the skills demanded by industry.  Students can expect to gain strong technical skills and develop strategies to teach these skills to students. Specifically, our program places strong emphasis on industry-aligned skills–teachers can expect to bolster their web design, coding, data analytics, and AI related competencies so they can help students learn relevant and in-demand skills.

Students who complete the Computer Science Endorsement may consider enrolling in some of our other endorsement programs and combine them together to obtain a Master of Arts in Educational Studies.  The additional endorsements are: Pre-K Special Needs, Reading, Teacher Leader, and Gifted Intervention Specialist.
