Mount St. Joseph University congratulates students Leila Jaafari and Katie Baxter. Both Leila and Katie were awarded scholarships from the College Club of Cincinnati, an organization of college-educated women encouraging women in higher education. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of GPA, activities, financial need, and future goals.
Leila Jaafari is pursuing studies in English Literature, Creative Writing, and Business. Upon graduating in May 2019, Leila's goals include earning a master' s degree in Library Science and publishing her writing. She is president of the MSJ Literary Magazine and is active with the Creative Writing Club, University Singers, and Cincinnati Works. She also volunteers at Springer School, St. Wolberg Monastery, and the Kenton County Library.
Katie Baxter is looking forward to a May 2020 graduation with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health & Wellness and a minor in Biology. Her future plans include earning a doctorate in Occupational Therapy and using her expertise in a career where she can provide assistance to children. Her community service includes volunteering with ABC pediatrics in occupational therapy for children, as well as with Habitat for Humanity. Katie is a counselor and swim instructor with the Cincinnati Recreation Commission and is involved with the University of Cincinnati Endocrinology Lab. She also serves as development chair for the MSJ Interfaith Club and is vice president of MSJ EXCEL Crew.
Both students also participate in Project EXCEL, a comprehensive academic support system for students with a disability.
