The Mount’s Service Learning Office and Interfaith Club invite all students, faculty, staff, and alumni to participate in our annual Welcome Week Service Day on Saturday September 1, 2018, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Welcome Week Service Day is an opportunity for the Mount community to begin the academic year by living out the University’s mission of serving others, having respect and concern for others, embracing diversity of cultures and beliefs, and integrating life and learning.

“The Welcome Week Service Day is a great way for new students to meet other students, as well as our outstanding faculty and staff” says Keith Lanser, manager of service learning & civic engagement. “These are the kinds of events that students will remember years from now. They also allow students to start new friendships that will last a lifetime.”

Service sites include:
• Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati
• Society of St. Vincent de Paul
• Western Wildlife Corridor
• EarthConnection
• And more!

All placements will be made the morning of the event except for those who wish to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. Those who indicated interest in volunteering with Habitat will be contacted separately and will be asked to RSVP for the house build through Habitat’s volunteer hub website. The eight Habitat participants will be given separate instructions because they will begin their build before the other groups.

All participants should wear Mount spiritwear and closed-toe shoes to the event, but realize clothes might get dirty! The service day begins in Seton Center lobby at 8:00 am for check-in and a light breakfast. The first 100 participants will receive a free Mount St. Joseph University Service Learning water bottle. A lunch for participants will be provided upon returning to campus.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

8:00 AM: Check-in at the Seton Center lobby

8:30 AM: Departure from the Mount to service sites

9:00 AM: Service begins

11:45 AM: Project wrap-up/ group reflection

12:00 PM: Return to the Mount for lunch
