Podcasts are taking over the new media world. This new form of radio is taking over because people love the fact that they can listen while they are doing other things, like driving or doing homework, and that they can pause the podcast and come back to it later. About forty-four percent of all podcast listeners are aged 18-34, and tend to be in college or have a college degree.

Did you know that your own university has a podcast? Actually, the Mount has four! Last year, a new club was formed on campus for students to create their own podcasts, called Mountcast. The founding members are pictured above, including Ryan Korengel, also known to the group as “the Podfather”, who graduated in May. Last year, Mountcast had three podcasts and won Student Organization of the Year! Currently, there are eight members of the club that create the four podcasts. Each one is recorded on a different day of the week and uploaded to Anchor, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, as well as other platforms.

“Ear Candy”, a podcast by Leo Saylor and Noah Borgdorff, is described by both men as “zany, goofy, random nonsense between two guys with no borders.” MountCast’s newest member Tiffany Manning also appears on Ear Candy as “the intern.”
“Nameless Pod”, co-hosted by Sydney Dotson and Morgan Carpenter, is a podcast about anything from pop culture and lifestyle to what’s happening at the Mount. Jessica Huber has also joined this podcast for season two.

Safwan Alvi and Ryne Poli have a podcast dedicated to sports talk called “Amateur Hour”. Sydney and Noah have also just started a podcast dedicated to NBC’s 2005 sitcom The Office, called “Delhi Mifflin”, in which they analyze and give their own commentary on each episode.

Mountcast is currently in its second year and the group wants to expand. If you enjoy listening to podcasts, talking, or editing audio, Mountcast would love to have you. If you would like to have your own podcast and talk about something specific, let us know. You can email us at msjupodcast@gmail.com or talk to any one of the current members. If you want to listen to the podcasts, you can follow Mountcast on Twitter @MSJUPodcast or follow this link: anchor.fm/mountcast . The group will also be having a fundraiser at Chipotle in Delhi on Nov. 15 starting at 5:30 p.m. and would love to see you there!
