Dr. Kane is an Associate Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology and Social Work. She earned a Ph.D. in Sociology and a Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies from the University of Maryland in 2011.  Her areas of expertise lie in contemporary families and childhoods.

Professor Kane's current research and scholarship 1) explores the intersection of childhood and societal and family trends, 2) investigates the ways in which the global economy and consumer cultures shape childhood experiences and styles of parenting, and 3) theorizes the relationship between religious rituals and concepts of women and motherhood.

Dr. Kane is director of the Mount's Sociology Program and teaches numerous Sociology courses including Race, Class, and Gender, Society and Childhoods, Sociological Theories, and Sociology of the Family.
