Finances

We understand that making a change in your career is a large commitment and should not be taken lightly. Finances are a large portion of the decision-making process. If you are interested in learning more about the cost of attendance to a Mount program or our graduate-level financial aid options, check out our Student Administrative Services webpages or contact the office at financial.aid@msj.edu

The blog CareerShifters.org offers some suggestions to help you here. Check out their website for more valuable information, advice, and inspiration for making a change in careers.

  1. Streamline your monthly spending. Look at your monthly budget, or create one if you have not done so already. There are plenty of resources to help you do this, but you can start as simply as with an Excel workbook and your monthly bank statement. Look and see what your monthly expenses are by category. Figure out where you can make cuts to make room for school.

  2. Saving before you make the leap is critical. This is more of a long-term option for those who have the time, but many will find that creating a savings “cushion” is critical along with streamlining to remaining stable while you are in school.

  3. Take the time to carefully understand all of the financial aid and scholarship information available for the various programs you are investigating. In addition to graduate financial aid and scholarships offered through the academic programs, check for private scholarships using resources like scholarships.com or fastweb.com.
