Catherine Relihan Scholarship for MAGELIN Program

The Catherine Relihan Scholarship is awarded to one student each year who enters the MAGELIN program (formerly known as MN). The scholarship is $5,000 to be distributed over the 4 semesters of the program.

Catherine Relihan graduated from the College of Mount St. Joseph in 1956 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She had a rich career practicing medical-surgical, obstetric and gerontology nursing in her home state of West Virginia before continuing her education in graduate nursing. Catherine ended her career as coordinator of practical nursing education for her local school system. Her passion was to assist adults to enter the nursing profession.

To be eligible, candidates must:

• be accepted to the MAGELIN program
• have an admission cumulative GPA of at least 3.4
• submit an application with an essay describing their aspirations for personal and professional development in the program

If chosen, candidates will be invited to be interviewed by a selection committee.

Robert Wood Johnson Scholarships for MAGELIN Program

The Robert Wood Johnson New Careers in Nursing Scholarship will be awarded to two students who enter the MAGELIN program (formerly known as MN) in May, 2013. The scholarships are $10,000 each. Preference will be given to students from groups underrepresented in nursing or from an economically disadvantaged background.

Underrepresented groups in nursing are defined as: “individuals from racial/ethnic groups and cultural backgrounds historically under-represented within the nursing community, including but not limited to men, persons of color, individuals with disabilities and those who are economically disadvantaged.”

Disadvantaged background is defined as: “students whose annual income falls below a level defined by Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for disadvantaged as determined by the information on Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).”

To be eligible, candidates must:

• be accepted to the MAGELIN program by January 15, 2013 for entry in May, 2013
• submit a FAFSA application by February 1, 2013
• submit an application with an essay describing their aspirations for personal and professional development in the program by February 1, 2013

If chosen as a finalist, candidates will be invited to be interviewed by the scholarship selection committee.
