                National Online Reading Science Program
Mount St. Joseph University's Reading Science Programs prepares practicing educators to be effective literacy leaders who understand and utilize scientifically-based reading research. Our Reading Science Program offers a Doctorate, Master of Arts in Education, Reading Science Certificate, Dyslexia Certificate, and Ohio Reading Endorsement. All of these programs are available fully online and designed for the working professional.
Reading Science Programs
The Ed.D. in Reading Science aims to prepare the next generation of education professors and literacy leaders to utilize and teach others practices that have been identified most advantageous through scientifically-based reading research. All accepted students receive a scholarship that covers 80% of their tuition.
Designed for the working professional, the Mount’s Ed.D. in Reading Science is available fully online during the academic year with a summer institute on campus.
- Fall and Spring – 2 courses each semester, one at a time
- Summer – 3 courses with a Summer Institute on campus
- Three year program if all prerequisites are completed.
The Master of Arts degree with a major in Education and a concentration in reading science prepares educators with the knowledge and skills to implement evidence-based reading instruction and/or intervention. The Reading Science Certificate and the Ohio Reading Endorsement coursework are built into the program and it is easy to also add the Dyslexia Certificate (one additional course required).
Designed for the working professional, the Mount’s Reading Science programs are convenient to an educators’s schedule and available fully online.

The Dyslexia Certificate prepares educators with the knowledge and skills to implement evidence-based reading instruction and intervention. It is comprised of seven courses including a year-long Orton Gillingham practicum experience (21 credit hours). Completing this program allows graduates to obtain CERI certification at the Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist level. The Reading Science Certificate is built into the program.

The Reading Science Certificate prepares educators with the knowledge and skills to implement evidence-based reading instruction and/or intervention. It is comprised of our five core classes (15 credit hours) that are included in our other program tracks and satisfy the prerequisites for the doctoral program.

The Ohio Reading Endorsement (K-12) prepares educators with the knowledge and skills to implement evidence-based reading instruction and intervention. Completion of the Ohio Reading endorsement requires 6 courses (18 credit hours), the Ohio Assessment for Educators (OAE) reading examination, and an Ohio teaching license. This endorsement allows Ohio teachers to teach reading across the grade levels (K-12). This endorsement does not allow educators to teach English Language Arts or English as a Second Language. The Reading Science Certificate is built into the program
