At the College of Mount St. Joseph, the month of October brings in fall, but it also is the start of the Pink Ribbon Girls games for the fall sports. These games are pink ribbon themed in honor of breast cancer awareness month. There are also many different events at each game that are used as fundraisers for breast cancer awareness.
The first Pink Ribbon Girls game took place on Sept. 29 when the football team took on Anderson. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) gave out free pink towels, the football team wore pink jerseys and the Pink Ribbon Girls sold pink footballs and other various pink items. The Mount’s football team won with a score of 41-20.
The next game takes place Tuesday, Oct. 9, when the Mount’s women’s soccer team takes on Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. The Lady Lions will look to get their first conference win against the 6-5-2 Lady Engineers. The women’s team has a 0-11-1 record for the season.
Following the women’s pink game is the men’s soccer team. The men’s team will also take on Rose-Hulman, but their game is on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The men’s team is also aiming to get their first conference win. Overall, the Men’s team has a 2-8-1 record for the season.
The College of Mount St. Joseph closes out their Pink Ribbon Girls Games on Oct. 17 when the women’s volleyball team takes on Depauw University at 7 p.m. The Mount’s women’s volleyball team currently has a 8-11 record, and will look to keep rolling right into this game against Depauw.
All the sports teams that participate in the Pink Ribbon Girls Games will be wearing pink jerseys. Money raised during the fundraisers that take place at these games will be donated to the Pink Ribbon Girls.
