My name is Max Withrow and I am going into my senior year as a math major. This summer is my second summer having a co-op at Sur-Seal. They make gaskets and seals for companies in the lighting, food, and medical industries.

This summer, I got the opportunity to work in the engineering department. In my position, I have been lucky enough to learn how to draw in 3D CAD systems and apply my problem solving skills in the real world. The best part about working here is that I have seen my drawings and ideas implemented into the business and is being used every day.

Working with engineers is a great experience. I get to make prototypes, draw on the computer, and learn new things every day. I have learned so much just this summer, from types of different foams to the fact that it might take a long time to make a prototype to work how the customer desires.

Sur-Seal is a great place to work. Everybody is easy to get along with and will always help if I have a question. Between the two summers working here, I have been able to work in every department of the factory business and learn the whole process from vendor supply to internal operations to customer relations. This summer has been especially great because it has reinforced my decision to continue on to graduate school and pursue a career in engineering.
