The Flats Gallery, a College of Mount St. Joseph off-campus urban arts partnership, announces the opening of a very exciting exhibition of Seek & Find posters (June 25-August 3, 2013) that echoes most of the series that was recently installed at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center facility in Green Township.  The 24 posters on display were original designs by Mount graphic design students under the direction of Beth Belknap Brann, associate professor of graphic design, in collaboration with Cincinnati Children’s, Kolar Design, ArtWorks and students from Bridgetown Middle School, C.O. Harrison Elementary School and Oak Hills High School, whose lively drawings are embedded in the poster designs.  A closing reception to acknowledge the participants is scheduled for Saturday, August 3, from 2-4 p.m.  It will be open to the public.

The sophomore Mount graphic design students created the series of original posters that feature recognizable west side icons within each of the designs.  The “seek-and-find” concept will be used as a game for waiting patients and their parents at Children’s Hospital Medical Center.  Some of the west side connections that are hidden within each poster include Western Bowl, Zip Dip, corn hole, high school sports, recreational activities and annual community events.

“This was an amazing opportunity for our students,” said Beth Belknap Brann.  “Sophomore year is the first time our students work with design programs on the computer.  The sophomores jumped in and really landed on their feet.”  Belknap Brann then added, “This is such a great collaboration between emerging student talent, a highly regarded hospital and top design professionals in the city.”

Kolar Design, a nationally-renowned graphic design firm in Cincinnati, and the non-profit ArtWorks, worked with Mount students in the fall of 2012.  After several community engagement sessions with area schools and the public, students generated a concept from gathered sketches, comments and ideas and then turned it into a graphic representation.  They then presented their digital design concepts to representatives from Kolar Design and ArtWorks for critiquing.  Students used the color palette that is tied into the CCHMC brand, creating posters that are imaginative, upbeat, engaging and reflective of west side communities.  Twenty-four of the overall 36 posters that were chosen for the project will be on view at the Flats Gallery through August 3.

The Seek & Find posters will also serve as an inspiring backdrop for the exciting and interactive Flats Gallery Summer Workshop Series featuring two Wednesday evening sessions on July 24 and August 7 from 6-8pm.  For more details and registration information, go to
