Torry Cornett, Academic Exploration Program and PASS Academic Advisor in the Academic Advising Resource Center, has recently been selected as a participant in the NCAA N4A Professional Development Institute in 2017. The NACDA is a professional association for those in the field of athletics administration, providing educational opportunities and serving as a vehicle for networking and the exchange of information with others in the profession.
Cornett’s role as a Mount St. Joseph University academic advisor is to provide academic scheduling, academic programming, and academic improvement planning assistance for students. He works with 20 PASS students, over 30 students in the Academic Exploration Program, and six international students. Within the group of students, there are over 40 student athletes annually that he advises.
“It's truly an honor to be selected as a participant with the NCAA N4A Professional Development Institute. When I received the news that I was selected to participate I was ecstatic. I believe the Professional Development Institute will align me with a learning community on a national level, enabling me to better serve the community and Mount St Joseph University,” says Cornett.
The NACDA is the largest association of collegiate athletics administrators, boasting a membership of more than 12,500 individuals and more than 1,600 institutions throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Members include athletics directors, associate and assistant athletics directors, conference commissioners and affiliate individuals or corporations.
In addition, Cornett was also selected as the 2017 recipient of the Steve McDonnell Scholarship, which will provide financial assistance to support the selected individual's attendance at the Professional Development Institute. “Receiving the Steve McDonnell Scholarship is both a blessing and an honor. I'm humbly grateful I was selected as I recognize the opportunity that the scholarship provides,” he says.
