Since 2012, Dr. Charles-Liscombe has been the department chair, an associate professor and the athletic training program director at the Mount. He holds a Doctor of Education degree in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of North Carolina – Greensboro, a Master of Science in Kinesiology with a specialization in Athletic Training from Indiana University, and a Bachelors of Science in Sports Medicine from Guilford College.
Dr. Charles-Liscombe is a certified and licensed athletic trainer with prior clinical experience at NCAA Division I, II, and III colleges and universities and community events. He teaches a variety of courses in the department including Principles of Athletic Training, Therapeutic Modalities, Biomechanical Analysis of Human Movement, Orthopedic Assessment, Medical Conditions, and Senior Seminar.
His research involves the scholarship of teaching and learning, active learning strategies in the classroom, faculty development issues in higher education, and academic role strain. He has been an invited speaker at the state and national meetings of the National Athletic Trainers Association. He has been a facilitator of faculty learning communities on classroom assessment techniques, student engagement, and interprofesssional education in health care.
Prior to joining the Mount, he served as a district director on the North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association leadership board and was named the 2008 NCATA Athletic Training Educator of the Year. He has been a site visitor for the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Athletic Training and the Athletic Training Education Journal.
