CONGRATULATIONS TO TONY ARETZ, president, who has been appointed chair of the Market Quality and Patient Safety Committee of the Board of Trustees for Mercy Health Southwest. Tony will also become the secretary and vice chair for membership of the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) Board of Trustees on January 4, 2014.

Sylvia Dick, adjunct instructor in art education, and Susan Ruttle Lawrence, adjunct instructor in art education, recently attended the Ohio Art Education Association Conference (OAEA) in Toledo, Ohio, from November 14 - 16, 2013. Together they presented a workshop entitled, "Powerful Women Artists and The Dinner Party Institute" on November 14, 2013. Their presentation was based on K-12 curriculum Sylvia and Susan developed during a summer institute at Kutztown University with the artist Judy Chicago and her "Dinner Party" installation piece. Susan also presented on the topic, "Family Art Nights, Bringing Your School Community Together" on Friday, November 15, 2013. Six of the Mount's art education students also attended the OAEA professional development conference in Toledo. They participated in a wide variety of presentations, workshops, and super sessions relating to best practices and current trends in the field of art education. A highlight for both the art education students and the instructors at the OAEA Conference, was being present at the Award Recognition Ceremony on November 14, 2013 when recent Mount grad, Katherine McMonigle '13, received the 2013 OAEA Student Division Award. Only one such award is bestowed each year to an outstanding student member based on their professional involvement in the field of art education at the state level.
Jeff Hillard, associate professor of English, wrote a new e-book, “Story’s Triumph: Mining Your Creative Writing for its Deepest Riches,” which has been published by Amazon Kindle (amazon.com). Craig Lloyd, associate professor of art, had four paintings included in the Summerfair Select art exhibition at the Carnegie Arts Center, October 25 through December 1, 2013. The show featured recipients of Summerfair Foundation Individual Artist Grants from the past three years.
